Often when we speak of passion, it revolves around careers, creativity, success, and dreams; but we forget the ones who see passion differently. Different in a way that secure our survival and give us the freedom to dream without fear.
This session took us on that journey, one of discipline, service, and rediscovery.
From AMU to Indian Navy
Lieutenant Ayush Chaudhary, an alumnus of Syed Hamid Senior Secondary School, AMU, shared his remarkable story of how passion does not come in a flash but quietly in steps. Having joined NDA 7 years back, Mr. Ayush did not initially see defense as his passion. That realization came later after 4 years of rigorous training, moments of doubt, leading him to step into the Indian Navy, where he now serves as a lieutenant.
Reminding us through one of the quotes he discussed, "You do not choose your passion; passion chooses you." That passion grows within us and cannot be manufactured or planned. It is what truly excites us to begin something and keeps us going through every rise and fall.
Redefining Passion and Purpose
When he spoke about life in defense, he shattered many stereotypes and said, defense is not just about running drills or training or battles; it is that space where you get tons of opportunities to do what you like: to draw, to read, to write, to explore technologies, to grow beyond uniforms. This made us all reflect on our perspectives towards something which might not be true and helped us recognize the importance of unlearning and relearning things.
Stories that inspire
Mr. Ayush shared a story of his friend, a technical officer who pursued his interest in IT, created a technology and got it patented as a proof that defense can coexist with other disciplines. Through such stories he beautifully conveyed that passion is not confined to specific fields; it is found everywhere, in every profession, in every place, within every individual.
Hearing him talk about his colleagues following their passion besides their allotted cadre of work, whether to run 42 kilometers of marathon or writing thesis or papers, we could understand true calling does not ask for any stage, it simply asks for persistence.
The takeaway
His words and experiences about his life in defense made us rethink, passion is not always about doing what we love but also facing challenges that come with it and evolving with time. His story about discipline and how difficult times shaped him as a person show a quiet devotion which kept his spirit alive towards his purpose and nation.
In a similar way, Stick continues to help youth discover their zeal, their drive and the cause that truly moves them. As this tale of ShiftCon 1.0 still lingers in our mind, we cannot help but wonder - What story will unfold next at ShiftCon 2.0 where passion again meets its purpose?
