A basketball court spans only a few yards, yet what happens within those boundaries is far more complex. It tests patience, resilience, discipline, physical and mental strength. This framed Stick's interactive session with Mr Abhyudaya Yadav, an international basketball player, Red Bull official athlete, and AMU alumnus.
From curiosity to commitment
The journey of Mr. Abhyudaya started with mere curiosity to play in school court that later evolved into discipline and then direction that shaped his education, career choices and personal growth. Listening to his story, from playing on school court to presenting on national and international courts, it became evident that repetition significantly influences one's success.
48 minutes, many lessons
What stood out the most in the session was the quiet metaphor of 4 quarters of the basketball match, each of 12 minutes that tested the player's patience, endurance, discipline, skills and movements. Life is much like a game, continuously surprising with opportunities, challenges, setbacks, but what matters is staying firm when momentum shifts.
When passion meets reality
One moment that resonated with all of us was Abhyudaya's emphasis on balance. Once came a time when his focus leaned towards basketball, often at the cost of studies. However, later during his MBA, he strengthened his academic foundation. His message was clear that sports are uncertain and one should not give up on their studies. Education therefore, he said, is not optional, it is essential.
Consistency over talent
Another takeaway was his reflection on consistency. A player practicing 6 hours will definitely perform better on the court than one who practices only 3 hours. This is what distinguishes a professional from just an enthusiast. The same principle applies to every field, whether academics, arts, literature; consistency compounds and gives better results.
The talk with Mr. Abhyudaya was about more than just basketball and sports, but how passion is sustained, how uncertainty is navigated and showing up with the same spirit to perform matters. This session was not an endpoint, the spirit of learning and passion carries forward and extends into ShiftCon 2.0 where stories like this continue to unfold.
